It’s RAK Day!

September 1st is New Zealand’s Random Acts of Kindness Day. A day that started in 2005, it’s been amazing how NZ has not only been the only country in the world to have a national RAK Day, but embraced it in every corner of the country!

From businesses and schools to churches and individuals planning to do something randomly kind for someone else on September 1st, we have been raising the kindness temperature in NZ for 13 years and now, “random acts of kindness” are part of our every day vernacular.

There’s loads of stuff happening all over the country and we’d love to hear what you’re up to. Follow us on Facebook or Twitter and let us know.

On here you’ll find ideas to get you started, a bit about why on earth we started this day in NZ, and some free downloadable resources to print out little ‘You’ve been RAK’d’ cards and give them out with your own random act.

RAK on, Megan x

  1. YMCA Motueka, YMCA Nelson and Nelson Training Center are all getting together in the week leading up to RAK Day 2019 to spread loads of kindness through the Nelson and Tasman districts! We are planning some exciting stuff and can’t wait!

    1. Yes I do know about this date too, but we’ve never seen another nation get into it right across the country like NZ has since 2005. That’s what we mean by a national day. In NZ it’s more than just a calendar entry. Businesses, schools, church groups, individuals, it’s amazing to see what happens here every Sept 1.

  2. This is the best day in anyone’s lifetime it is super awesome and I love it so much this day is my entire life I’m not joking. Every day that is not RAK day I do absolutely nothing but on RAK day I get up and celebrate it so much I’m not even joking RAK day is literally my life.

  3. Wow, I didn’t know this day existed until a short while ago 2pm- Auckland CBD (Fort Street).

So to the lady who just happened to give me a chocolate when I was contemplating going to buy myself a little ‘pick me up chocolate’ a big thank you !!.

I hope she sees this – THANK YOU 🙂 !!

  4. This morning I came in to a box of Hershey’s chocolate kisses on my desk with a little note saying that i’d been RAK’d!

Our social committee and cultural ambassadors had arranged for all 330 Fiserv NZ employee’s to be greeted by this treat this morning. I was so touched by their thoughtfulness that I passed on the kindness by giving my chocolates to the lovely courier guy that comes in each morning. Honestly, I think he was pretty weirded out .. but i hope he passes on some act of kindness today too!
